The Q6 E-Tron lineup helps solve a persistent problem with luxury electric SUVs: they’ve been slow to charge compared to mass-market models. While Teslas, Hyundais, and Kias can refill quickly at DC fast chargers, previous German electric SUVs often left drivers waiting. The company’s new 800-volt electrical architecture, borrowed from the Porsche Taycan, allows the Q6 to go from 10% to 80% charge in about 21 to 22 minutes using a 350-kW CCS connector.

Two different battery chemistries are used, sourced from Samsung SDI and CATL.

The Samsung cells are NCA, the CATL ones NMC; both reach 80% in roughly the same time. On 400-volt chargers, like much of the Tesla Supercharger network today, the car splits its pack into two parallel 400-volt sections, achieving a 10-80% charge in around 35 minutes at a peak of 135 kW.

Range, efficiency, and what it means for real-world driving

EPA range estimates vary by trim.

321 miles for the rear-wheel-drive Q6 E-Tron, 307 miles for the Quattro dual-motor version, and 275 miles for the SQ6. Over an 83-mile drive in a Quattro and a 102-mile stint in an SQ6, the average efficiency was 3.0 miles per kWh, which is excellent given the emphasis on performance and handling rather than hypermiling. The Q6 showed 2.9 mi/kWh and the SQ6 hit 3.1 mi/kWh, though traffic likely skewed those numbers slightly.

It says the Q6 E-Tron offers a 33% performance improvement and a 30% reduction in energy consumption compared to the older Q8 E-Tron. The shift to 800 volts is central to these gains.

Interior space, packaging, and ride quality

One quirk: the regenerative braking system defaults to a gliding behavior when you lift off the accelerator. In Drive, the car uses an “Auto” deceleration mode that relies on camera and navigation data to decide how much regen to apply. That can be unpredictable — gliding around a roundabout sometimes triggers an unexpected ramp-up in regen. Drivers can use steering-wheel paddles to select levels 0, 1, or 2, or switch to “B” mode on the odd shift selector for a full 0.25 g of regen.

Technology and digital interface

The cabin features Audi’s Digital Stage layout.

An 11.9-inch configurable instrument cluster, a 14.5-inch curved OLED touchscreen, and a 10.9-inch passenger display with an active privacy filter. An augmented reality head-up display is available, though it can be overwhelming — the author turned it off. Climate controls are integrated into the screen, but a persistent left-side menu of icons makes most functions intuitive. A new AI-powered digital assistant handles tasks like lowering the heated seats without needing a data connection for everything. The Q6 also uses personalized OLED lighting as part of the Prestige package.

Pricing, performance, and final takeaway

The 2025 Audi Q6 E-Tron Quattro starts at $67,095 including destination. The test car added the $6,800 Prestige package, $1,300 Warm Weather package, and $1,000 20-inch wheel package, totaling $76,195. The Quattro makes 456 hp in launch mode and hits 60 mph in 4.9 seconds; the rear-drive version does it in 6.3, and the SQ6 in 4.1 seconds with 509 hp.

The SQ6, reviewed separately by the outlet, feels like a significantly more engaging vehicle for only a modest price increase. For this model, the real strength is in its fast charging and competitive range. The company learned from the early Q8 E-Tron and brought a more capable EV to market.
