The Ford Transit remains the most targeted van in the UK, with more than half of all stolen vans in the first seven months of 2026 being Transits. Records obtained through a Freedom of Information request to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) reveal that between January and July 2026, 13,731 Transits, representing 52.58% of the 26,115 reported van thefts, were stolen. This pattern has held since 2024, when the model also led theft statistics.
The Transit’s prevalence among thieves aligns with its strong market position. In 2026 alone, over 42,800 Transits, including full-size and Transit Custom models, were registered, far surpassing competitors like the Volkswagen Transporter (10,200 registrations) and Mercedes-Benz Sprinter (9,699 registrations). The theft data covers 305 different Transit variants, ranging from various engine types to payload capacities and body styles.

While overall van thefts in the UK have decreased, the Transit’s theft rate remains significantly higher than other models. Reported thefts dropped by 15% from 2024 to 2025, and the first half of 2026 saw an additional 8% decline. However, the Transit’s theft rate still far outpaces competitors: the second-most stolen van, the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, was taken 493 times, accounting for 9.5% of thefts, while the Peugeot Boxer and Citroën Relay followed with 210 and 171 thefts, respectively.
