Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the AMG GT, now available as an SUV. The vehicle is built on the new AMG.EA platform, shared with the four-door coupe version of the AMG GT. Notably, it features an electric powertrain, making it the first SUV in the series.
The SUV’s front design no longer includes a continuous strip of lights across the front. However, the metal slats in the grille and the Mercedes-Benz star logo can be illuminated when needed. On the sides, it retains the flush-mounted door handles. The rear is dominated by six circular turbine-shaped brake lights.
The interior is similar to the sedan version, with a 10.2-inch instrument cluster, a 14-inch infotainment screen angled towards the driver, and an optional 14-inch infotainment screen for the passenger. The center console features carbon fiber trim and several physical buttons. Other notable features include an optional Burmester 4D audio system and a panoramic roof with Sky Control that can be made transparent or opaque.
The AMG GT SUV is available in three variants: GT 53, GT 55, and GT 63. The GT 53 is equipped with a 106 kWh battery and two electric motors, producing 536 hp, 800 Nm of torque, and a range of 668 km. The GT 55 offers a choice of 106 kWh or 128 kWh batteries and uses three axial flux motors, resulting in 805 hp, 1,860 Nm of torque, and a range of 585 km or 700 km.
Mercedes states that the GT 63 features three motors that produce 1,153 hp and 2,000 Nm of torque. This increase in power does not compromise the vehicle’s range. The combined range remains the same as the GT 55. The GT 63 can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 2.7 seconds and from 0-200 km/h in 7.2 seconds, just 0.4 seconds slower than the McLaren P1 hypercar.
The pricing for the AMG GT SUV starts at €113,050 for the GT 53 in Europe. They will launch the GT 55 and GT 63 between March and May, with prices to be confirmed later. Mercedes will provide more information on the pricing for these variants at a later date.
