Jaguar’s Type 01 represents the automaker’s most powerful road car ever and its first fully electric grand tourer. The vehicle signals a deliberate shift for the British brand, which has historically focused on performance-driven sports cars but now seeks to demonstrate its ability to deliver the same exhilarating driving experience in an electric context. The Type 01 merges raw power with refined handling, directly targeting enthusiasts who refuse to compromise on speed or luxury.
The Type 01’s powertrain features three motors—one on the front axle and two at the rear—producing 1,016 horsepower and 1,007 pound-feet of torque. Jaguar states the car can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds, a performance level that rivals many gasoline-powered supercars. Its 50:50 weight distribution and a center of gravity positioned 2.4 inches below the driver’s hip point contribute to a balanced, agile feel despite the vehicle’s substantial size.
The battery system employs an 850-volt architecture and holds 118.0 kilowatt-hours, enabling an estimated 450 miles of range under WLTP testing. At highway speeds, Jaguar projects a more conservative 320 miles. Dimensions are striking: 206.4 inches long and just 55.24 inches tall, comparable to a modern Ford Mustang, with a 17.2-foot wheelbase. The long hood and truncated rear create a classic grand tourer silhouette, while the low height maintains a sleek profile.
Dynamic handling and razor-sharp steering
The Type 01’s engineering prioritizes driver engagement. Its double-wishbone front suspension and integral-link rear suspension work in tandem with Dynamic Air Suspension, which adjusts stiffness and ride height dynamically. Five drive modes, Jaguar, Dynamic, Efficient, Ice & Snow, and Curated, allow drivers to fine-tune handling characteristics. In Dynamic mode, up to 87% of power is directed to the rear axle, stiffens the active air springs, and sharpens the steering and accelerator. At low speeds, the rear wheels can pivot up to 6 degrees, resulting in a 37.7-foot turning circle, tighter than a 2026 Mazda Miata (30.1 feet) and comparable to a Ford Expedition (41.0 feet).
Active aerodynamics enhance performance significantly. Front vanes open to cool the powertrain and brakes as needed, while a three-stage rear spoiler generates up to 165.3 pounds of downforce at speeds exceeding 96.3 mph. When deployed, the car lowers by 0.59 inches, improving stability. The combination of all-wheel steering, the low center of gravity, and precise suspension gives the Type 01 a level of engagement that many electric vehicles struggle to match.
Sleek design meets cutting-edge tech
The Type 01’s exterior design features a long hood, flush door handles that deploy even with 0.16 inches of ice, and hidden rear taillights integrated into the bumper. The front incorporates HD LED projector headlights just 3.31 inches tall, each containing 20,000 LEDs. Standard wheels measure 23 inches, with optional 21-inch units available in aluminum finishes. A laser-etched leaping cat emblem adorns the fenders, while ADAS hardware is concealed behind the Jaguar badge on the grille.
Inside, the cabin blends minimalism with advanced technology. A 24.0-inch OLED screen sits behind the steering wheel, accompanied by a 7.0-inch vertical touchscreen for media, climate, and other controls. The traditional rearview mirror is replaced by a ClearSight Rear View display, projecting the scene onto the panoramic soundbar at windshield level. All four seats offer heating and cooling, with front passengers benefiting from 12-way adjustability. The rear seats fold flat in a 50:50 split, expanding cargo space from 15.9 cubic feet to 35.3 cubic feet.
Jaguar has not disclosed a release date or final pricing for the Type 01. The vehicle’s introduction marks a bold assertion: electric performance can deliver the same level of excitement as internal combustion engines. If successful, it could redefine expectations for luxury electric driving, offering not just speed, but genuine driving pleasure.
