The 2025 Audi A6 Sportback E‑Tron will arrive in North America this summer with a base price of $67,195, joining the S6 Sportback E‑Tron and the Q6 E‑Tron SUV as the first models built on Volkswagen Group’s Premium Platform Electric (PPE).
New platform promises more range and space
The company says the PPE’s 800‑volt architecture allows a 94.9 kWh usable battery to deliver up to 392 miles of EPA‑estimated range. The same platform underpins at least ten electric models slated for launch worldwide, according to the briefing in Munich.
Powertrain and performance figures
- A6 Sportback E‑Tron RWD: 362 hp, 0‑60 mph in 5.2 seconds, $67,195
- A6 Sportback E‑Tron Quattro: 422 hp, 0‑60 mph in 4.3 seconds, $69,195
- S6 Sportback E‑Tron Quattro: up to 543 hp, 0‑60 mph in 3.7 seconds, $79,995
The powertrain pairs a 280 kW permanent‑magnet motor at the rear with a 140 kW induction motor up front. The front unit can spin freely during cruising to improve efficiency, and both motors handle most everyday braking, recapturing up to 220 kW of energy.

Charging capabilities
Thanks to the 800‑volt system, the A6 can accept DC fast‑charging at up to 270 kW. Estimates a 10‑80 % state‑of‑charge in about 21 minutes, with the first ten minutes adding roughly 135 miles. Plug & Charge works at Electrify America stations, and a 9.6 kW onboard charger can fill the battery in roughly ten hours on a 50‑amp home circuit.
Exterior design and aerodynamics
The new “inverted grille” design places the radar housings in an open lower grille, while the upper section carries the classic four‑ring logo. The shape achieves a drag coefficient of 0.21, the lowest in the VW Group lineup, though U.S. side‑mirror regulations push it to 0.22.
Optional lighting packages add red rear illumination and white front accents. A touch‑sensitive hood opens the front trunk, which can hold a backpack or the fast‑charging cable. Rear light strips can display simple symbols, such as a hazard triangle, when needed.
Interior space and digital cockpit
The Sportback measures 194 inches long, 75.7 inches wide, and 58.7 inches tall, with a 116‑inch wheelbase. Cargo capacity is 26 cubic feet, expanding to 40 cubic feet with the rear seats folded. A panoramic sunroof with six opacity levels adds a sense of openness.

Inside, the “Digital Stage” includes an 11.9‑inch instrument cluster and a 14.5‑inch central touchscreen, complemented by a 10.9‑inch passenger display. Voice commands can handle more than 800 vehicle functions, reducing reliance on the main screen. An optional 20‑speaker Bang & Olufsen system features headrest speakers for separate sound zones.
Comparison with competitors
In the premium electric sedan segment, the A6 and S6 will contend with the Mercedes‑Benz EQE, BMW i5, and Tesla Model S. While the E‑Tron GT starts at $130,000, the A6’s pricing aims to attract buyers seeking a less‑exotic yet still upscale EV.
Strategic context for the brand
CEO Gernot Döllner said the brand plans a battery‑electric offering in every core segment by 2027 and a fully electric lineup by 2033. This timeline is more ambitious than some rivals, including Cadillac and Porsche, which have recently adjusted their all‑electric targets.
They continue to use the “E‑Tron” badge for electric models, even as a new Premium Platform Combustion is rolled out for the gasoline lineup, beginning with the 2025 Audi A5. Döllner called the A6 and S6 “bridges” to the all‑electric future, acknowledging that the transition will take a decade.

Market availability and restrictions
The Avant wagon version will not be sold in North America, and certain lighting features are limited to stationary use due to U.S. regulations. Side‑mirror cameras popular in Europe are replaced by conventional mirrors, slightly affecting aerodynamic efficiency.
The sedan targets eco‑conscious executives.
Overall, the 2025 Audi A6 Sportback E‑Tron reflects a shift from the brand’s earlier strategy of adapting existing combustion models for electric power. By leveraging the dedicated PPE platform, they hope to deliver a more competitive electric sedan that balances performance, range, and interior quality.
